with strings and continuo

This piece is one of the masterworks of classical music and is often performed during Lent and Holy Week. The "Stabat Mater" is a 13th-century Christian hymn to Mary which portrays her suffering as Jesus Christ’s mother during his crucifixion. Barqoue composer, G.B. Pergolesi depicts the pain Mary felt through two female voices singing both together and solo movements accompaniment by heart-wrenching accompaniment by strings and organ.

The virtual event will be professionally recorded by Palmer-Barker Arts LLC and is free to the public to view. It will be online from its premiere on 4pm through Holy Week.

This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
